A workshop for creative writing. A series of activities to get participants thinking creatively and writing short stories. Designed for groups of up to 10, and to last about 2 hours.
Supplies
- Paper
- Pens
- Print outs of photos to use as prompts.
Plan
- (5-10 mins) Icebreaker: “Fortunately, Unfortunately”
- To get people thinking creatively and collaborating, play things game
- Start with a premise eg. “We went out for a picnic”
- First person goes “Fortunately….” and describes something good, next person says “Unfortunately” and describes something bad, building on what the previous person said.
- Keep going, alternating fortunate and unfortunate events, until the story reaches a natural end point.
- You may play a few rounds.
- Encourage people to always build on what the previous person said, as opposed to “undoing” it or pivoting away from it.
- Example premises:
- 3… 2… 1… Blast Off! The rocket took off into the sky.
- We approached the mouth of the mysterious cave.
- “A storm approaches” The captain says, watching the clouds roll in over the horison
